Never Say Never

Lesson learned, never say never. I want a Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone in it. Now!

I have been an iBeliever for 4 years now. Enjoying the user experience, the easiness of use, the vibes for having a design item – there never was a real choice. Using iDevices has been like holding the very future in your hands. Things like Siri (I have heard tales of this, not available in finnish). iCloud apps that actually sync everything over the air between all my environments – let it be Mac, iPhone, Windows – fully automatic. No user action whatsoever required for this to happen. If Jobs was still around, we’d probably have transporter abilities on iPhone 5. “Beam me to Tokyo Akihabara, Siri” – はい!

This week I got my hands on the new Nokia Lumia 800 running Windows Phone for the first time. My former colleague had got it as a replacement for the Nokia Meego phone “stolen” from him last month…

Now this is a bit hard to describe in any rational way, so I won’t even try. The phone design, the smoothly scrolling screens on Windows Phone, the animations, the home screen panels – the whole thing felt exactly like I had first time an iPhone in my hand. Exciting. Fresh. Wow.

The damn device felt good.

I have no intention to get into the feature comparison discussions currently running on every tech site & magazine about the phone’s abilities. I just don’t care. The feeling is now right. I think that’s going to count more than any megapixel amount. You WANT this phone. Big difference. Congratulations Nokia & Microsoft. You have done it.

Sorry, most links on this point to Finnish sites…
